Dental insurance can be confusing. Between deductibles, maximums, in-network versus out-of-network benefits, and different payment policies from each insurance company, it can be difficult to understand what your plan actually covers.

At Village Dental of Milford, our goal is to make the process as simple and transparent as possible. We believe every patient deserves to understand their benefits, expected costs, and treatment options before moving forward with care.

Does Village Dental of Milford Accept Dental Insurance?

Yes! Village Dental of Milford works with all dental insurance plans as an out-of-network provider.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that being out of network means we do not accept insurance. That is not true.

Being out of network simply means that we do not have a contracted fee agreement with a particular insurance company. Many dental insurance plans still provide out-of- network benefits, and patients can often receive excellent coverage while seeing the dentist they trust.

Every dental insurance plan is different, so the most important thing is understanding the specific benefits included with your individual plan.

What Does “Out of Network” Actually Mean?

Dental insurance companies create contracts with dental offices that agree to certain negotiated fees. Offices that participate in those contracts are considered “in network.”

When an office is out of network, it means the office is not bound by that insurance company’s contracted fee schedule. However, many insurance plans still provide coverage for out-of-network providers.

For example, some patients have insurance plans with strong out-of-network benefits, while others have plans with limited or no out-of-network coverage. This difference is determined by the plan selected by an employer or purchased individually, not by the dental office.

This is why we encourage patients to look at their specific benefits rather than making assumptions based only on whether a dental office is “in network.”

Will I Have to File My Own Insurance Claims?

No. Even when we are out of network, our team continues to handle the insurance process for our patients.

You do not need to navigate complicated claim forms, paperwork, or insurance submissions on your own. Our team will continue to submit your claims, provide the necessary documentation, and communicate with insurance companies on your behalf.

We believe our patients deserve an advocate in their corner. Our goal is to help you receive the maximum benefits available under your specific insurance plan and make the process as smooth as possible.

While we cannot control how an insurance company determines coverage or reimbursement, we will always work hard to ensure your claims are submitted accurately and that you understand your benefits before moving forward with treatment.

At Village Dental, being out of network does not mean you are on your own. We are still here to help you navigate your dental care and your insurance benefits every step of the way.

Will I Have to Pay for My Entire Appointment Up Front?

For most dental insurance plans, the answer is no.

For insurance companies other than Delta Dental and Blue Cross Dental, patients are only responsible for their estimated portion (such as a copay, deductible, or uncovered services) at the time of their appointment. These insurance companies send their payments directly to our office, just as they always have.

Why Are Delta Dental and Blue Cross Dental Different?

Delta Dental and Blue Cross Dental handle out-of-network claims differently than most insurance companies.

For out-of-network providers, these companies send the insurance reimbursement directly to the patient rather than sending payment to the dental office. This is their policy, not ours.

Because of this process, patients with Delta Dental or Blue Cross Dental may be responsible for payment in full at the time of service. They will receive reimbursement directly from their insurance company.

In our experience, Delta Dental reimbursement checks often arrive within approximately 5–10 days, although timing can vary depending on the specific plan.

How Can I Know What My Insurance Will Cover?

The best way to avoid surprises is to understand your individual benefits before dental treatment begins.

At Village Dental, we are happy to help review your insurance information and provide an estimate whenever possible. We believe patients should have a clear understanding of their expected investment before making decisions about their dental care.

Insurance benefits can vary significantly from person to person, even when two people have the same insurance company. There is no single answer that applies to every Delta Dental plan, employer plan, or individual policy.

Why Is Village Dental Out-of-Network?

We chose to practice as an out-of-network dental office because we believe it allows us to continue providing the level of care and patient experience our community has trusted us to deliver for more than 50 years.

Insurance companies set reimbursement rates and policies that can impact the amount of time, resources, and options available for patient care. Remaining in certain insurance networks can sometimes limit the flexibility needed to provide the comprehensive, personalized dentistry our patients deserve.

By being out of network, we are able to make decisions based on what is best for our patients and their oral health, not solely based on insurance limitations. This allows us to continue investing in advanced technology, continuing education, our team, and the high-quality materials and services that help us provide exceptional care.

Our Commitment to Transparency

At Village Dental of Milford, we know that navigating dental insurance can feel overwhelming. Our commitment is to provide clear communication, honest estimates, and help you understand your options so you can make informed decisions about your oral health.

Whether you have insurance or not, our team is always here to answer questions and help guide you through the process.
